I’ve been writing to preppers for almost 7 years. We have never been so close to a real collapse of our society. We have never been so watched and controlled by technology as we are right now. It makes a lot of people want to run away.
Getting away with a family of four is not easy. It needs to be carefully planned and carried out. I should also say that when something like this is done, it could make or break the whole thing. So, now that we’ve talked about everything, I’ll tell you how I plan to disappear during the next crisis and how you might want to do the same.
We’ll assume that I’m not a specific target of anyone with a lot of money, so my disappearance will just be a way to wait until people forget about me.
I’ll Leave Fake Leads
As I get ready to leave, I’ll be very strategic about how I talk to neighbors, friends, and family.
Another important place to leave these fake leads will be in online chats and emails. All you have to do is leave a few options so that if someone comes looking, they will know where to look first. Of course, none of the clues you leave will have anything to do with where you are going.
Sell Everything and Pay Off Debt
You can’t bring everything along. The better, the less you can take!
All of those expensive things on the walls, in boxes, and on shelves should be sold. You should sell them as soon as possible because the next crisis could make things like entertainment less valuable.

If food prices keep going up and there aren’t enough supplies, people won’t want to spend money on a PlayStation 5 or a big flat-screen TV. Use all of that money to get rid of any debts you have.
Creditors have a lot of money and power, so you want to get rid of them. They are likely the ones who will try the hardest to find you.
I will break or move gadgets
Destruction of all electronic devices that contain information about you or can be used to track you will be an important and even rewarding step. I know that people can find a lot of information about me on the internet.
Still, if you destroy your electronics, people like Google won’t be able to track your GPS location.
If you want to be really sneaky, you could tape your phone to the top of a freight train or trolley and let it travel around the country for a while while you run away.
You could use a Powerfilm Solar panel and hide the phone somewhere on a roof. It would give a great false position, and on low power settings, the solar film would probably keep it on for weeks or even months. Put it in a Ziploc bag so it doesn’t get damaged by the rain.
I’ll change how I look
This one might be easy for you, or it might make you feel a lot of different things. Get ready for it. The good news is that even small changes to how you look can have a big effect on how people see you.
For men, it can be as easy as shaving off their beards and getting new haircuts. Changing a woman’s hairstyle, hair color, or even the way she puts on her makeup can make a big difference.
You can change the way you dress and use unique accessories like glasses and hats to make yourself look completely different.
I use my family as a metric. How well would my family be able to spot me? This is the question you should ask yourself when you are making plans to disappear during the next crisis.
I’ll keep moving all the time
In this day and age, the only way to really disappear is to move around a lot during a crisis.
Because of this, one of the first things we will do is pay cash for a used camper. This will give me the freedom to move from one place to another or even stay on the move for days at a time.
Don’t stay in one place for long periods of time. You can settle for a while and make some money, but if you want to build a strong base and start over as someone else, it will take a lot. Instead, remain transient in your new life.
Choose a Cash Business for Income (Or an SHTF Career)
It’s important to have money set aside for emergencies. I think this prep is hard for a lot of people. A lot of Americans find it hard to save money in general. No matter how big your emergency fund is, you will run out of money at some point.
If you go back to work with the same name and social security number, you will be back on the map. The whole act of disappearing won’t work.
The better choice would be to think about a way to make money, or what I call the SHTF career. If you want to go away, I think things have gotten even worse in the world. I have trigger points for this, and you should do the same so that you know when to get out of there.

Weather the Storm
The first few days will be the hardest for the person who disappears during a crisis. There may be people who really want to find you, and in the beginning, they will use all of their resources to do so.
Not only that, but you will probably have to move when the world ends. You will be trying to reestablish yourself in a world that is coming apart at the seams.

You are going to have to weather the storm. Now might be a good time to just park the camper for a week or two in a state park with a nice view.
The increased surveillance state, the way the world is falling apart, and the rise in crime in every part of this country is enough to make anyone want to VANISH tomorrow. Out there, things are getting crazy.
Even though it’s harder to disappear in the modern world than it used to be, it’s still possible.
You’ll have to plan a little bit more, but you can do it. This isn’t easy, and you’ll probably have deep regrets occasionally, but it could be your way to safety and prosperity as the world around you falls apart.
