8 Prepping Things That Have Got Really Expensive Recently

We are living in a time that has never been seen before. There is inflation around the world, supply chain problems, more natural disasters, cyberattacks on important infrastructure, corruption at every level, and civil unrest. These things are starting to look like a powder keg that is about to go off and cause chaos all over the world.

People who are worried about the future have already made plans to live on their own and are ready to do so. Everyone else looks shocked as they watch everything they have grown to depend on being destroyed.

Since May 2021, the prices of almost everything, from food to supplies, have gone up by more than 5% each month. If this keeps going on or gets worse, it won’t be long before people give up and turn to anarchy to stay alive.

Here are 8 prepping items whose prices have gone up a lot in the past few months. In any case, everyone should be stockpiling these goods now before they become even more expensive or aren’t available anymore.

Cost of Canned Food

The price of canned food, especially sardines and tuna, keeps going up because demand is very high and supply is going down. Some places have run out of canned sardines, and stores don’t know when they’ll be back in stock.

China, which makes the most aluminum cans in the world, has recently shut down a number of factories because it can’t afford the price of coal needed to keep the power plant running. Even though it’s shocking, a lot of other factories in China that make basic goods that are used in almost everything are also closing.

If there aren’t enough aluminum cans, it will be harder and harder to find canned food. If you can still find canned food at your local grocery store, don’t even look at the price. Just buy as many as you can and put them away.

Guns and bullets

The price of guns and ammunition have gone up because demand for both keeps going through the roof.

Most people know that self-defense is going to be very important to keep food and supplies safe.

Also, there is a push for more gun control laws. The best way to stay safe right now is to stock up on guns and a lot of ammunition.

Winchester and Browning raised the price of ammunition in May, and it wouldn’t be surprising if they did it again. Right now, the price of ammunition is crazy high, and it’s hard to get in many places, so stock up now.

Grains

The price of grains around the world is going up because a lot of corn and soybean crops were destroyed in 2021. As a result, countries like Russia, Ukraine, Armenia, Romania, and Kazakhstan limited or stopped exporting some types of grain.

Now is the time to stock up on grains for long-term storage, while most places still have supplies.

Even though the prices look high, having a pantry full of non-perishable items is a good way to be prepared for anything that could happen during the winter.

If problems with the supply chain get worse, grocery stores might not have any food to sell. Even though we all hope for the best, being ready for the worst gives us stability when things are uncertain.

Price of Natural Gas

The price of natural gas is going up all over the world, and it doesn’t look like it will go back to normal any time soon. As winter approaches, natural gas supplies are expected to drop by a lot in some parts of Europe.

Anyone who uses natural gas or propane to heat their home or cook should stock up now to make sure they have enough to get them through the winter. Even houses that get their heat from the power grid should have a backup system like natural gas or wood in case the power goes out and doesn’t come back on.

A total power outage may seem unlikely, but it could happen if the power grid is attacked by hackers or if a Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) causes problems.

Again, the smartest thing to do is to plan for the worst-case scenario while hoping for the best.

Gasoline, Diesel, and Vegetable Oil

The price of gasoline and diesel keeps going up almost every day. Those who have generators will use a lot of gasoline or diesel if the power goes out.

Choose a diesel generator if you can, because diesel fuel can be stored for a lot longer than gasoline.

Diesel cars and trucks are better than gasoline cars and trucks for the same reason.

With the right container, like a 55-gallon drum made for oil, you should stock up on diesel fuel now, while the price is still low.

Additionally, diesel engines can run on a mix of diesel and vegetable oil (or just vegetable oil in a pinch) without any modifications, although modifications make it more efficient.

Most preppers will have a lot of vegetable oil in their food stores, so it’s important to know that this could be a use for it. But no one will want to burn vegetable oil unless they have to because its price has been going up and up, and palm oil and canola oil are at their highest levels ever.

“Pricey” is a relative word.

If hyperinflation starts and the supply chain continues to break down, the prices of these 8 prepping items, which have already gone up a lot, will go up even more.

Due to the cost, stocking up on food, supplies, and fuel might not seem like a good idea at first. But having these things is much better than letting your money sit around while its value in the real world goes down.

For the long, dark winter ahead, it’s best to stock up on enough food and supplies to last until spring or even longer.
